Top United Church of Canada Staying Myths

1 . The denomination will repent of its divisive/wrong teachings and practices.

There is no sign of this happening, in fact, unfaithful preaching and teaching are getting worse. See UCC Observer article. Most the the renewal groups have run out of steam and there is no sign that the hyper-liberals in the denomination will change.

2. Someone needs to stay to keep the Church running until the young people and families decide to return.

While a few young people and family return, most who do decide to return tend to go to Churches where there are better children's programs, more Christian teaching and young people ministries. Young people, who lack older people's social connections are usually more likely to spot the disconnect between the teachings of the Bible and the teachings of the UCC. They are simply choosing denominations with a more Christian theology.

3. The faithful part of the United Church of Canada has something unique to offer.

This is true to a small extent, however much of the good fellowship, hymns and desire for Christian unity can be found in many forms throughout Christ's Church. There are other denominations which ordain women, seek social justice, and provide a place to ask questions. Other denominations also have their unique offerings for you to explore however in a much more solid theological approach. It is a UCC myth that most evangelical churches ask you to "leave your brain at the door."

4. I've got many years in the UCC clergy pension plan and can not move.

Some denominations have pension agreements with the UCC and so you can transfer your pensionable years. Do recall that Jesus said, "If your right hand offends you, cut it off."
